“Bringing union’s together by building relationships through communication redistribution”
- Rick Alexander
Union Connect is a communication redistribution source that provides unions with a pragmatic approach to emerging technologies. We have four areas of focus: Membership Strategy, Union Strategy, Educational Workshops and Innovation.
UNION CONNECT
Bringing yesterday pilgrimage and passion into today’s union...
Communication redistribution is the ability to bring technology, membership and unions together with a system that provides a process that accepts new thoughts, cultures, ideas and the acceptance of different generations of membership. Today social networks continue to make the headlines, however, unions need to understand that its more then social networking, it is about relationships. It is developing relationships with members and providing real information on a consistent basis.
Unions today still have an important place to the American labor movement, political process and to the immigrant worker as well. Unions play a huge role in American politics though various efforts of membership, mobilization and the endorsements of candidates. Most unions are activists in health care, wages, and immigrant worker issues. Other areas of interest can be the Employee Free Choice Act or Speed Matters issues.
Adopting Change to Achieve Union Growth
Union membership today is not just about a contract, its about education, benefits, political elections and relationships. Today the union must be more flexible and open to increasing better efficiencies of communication by reducing the redundancy of old systems of communications.
Technology today gives unions a better chance of succeeding and growing then ever before. The days of general membership meetings, letters, back alley antics, and force are over. Today’s union president cannot sit in the office and be a gate-keeper of information and rule by selective collaboration of information. Members today are smarter, demand more and expect the workings of the union to be an open book. Membership want’s a voice. More specifically they want their voice heard. The days of the local union president being the voice are over, the membership is the voice and it will be the membership that grows the union of tomorrow.
Exploiting new technologies takes more then just recognizing them, it takes action. It takes thinking outside of the box, vision and leadership to embrace the change, creating goals to allow the union to grow.
