Communications to Membership Is A Key To The Survival of The Union

Communication Redistribution is about giving membership the opportunity to have a voice in the process or issue. Its about engaging membership into a collaborative discussion not selective discussion.

Membership today must be communicated in multiple ways—not only must communications still be the old way, but the new way with new tools.   Traditional union communications, has been hierarchical and unidirectional, todays communications brings membership into an extended and open conversation at all levels, from contract negotiations, benefits, issues to politics. Membership today has multiple ways to gather information; membership doesn’t want to be limited to their means of information.


There are many examples of the value of communication redistribution, from unions that integrate membership feedback into contract strategy, to others who solicit and respond to membership questions, to even membership facilitating communities where members assist each other, increasing union awareness.
